Among TREES' overarching goals is to rethink economics<\/em> To achieve this, it starts with a deep understanding of economic reality (Research component), transforming how inequalities are taught and learned (Teaching component), and linking academic knowledge with civil society (Outreach component).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative aims to promote conversations about inequalities with a focus on the Global South. These reflections emerge from a context where the consequences of inequalities are experienced daily. In this situated conversation, issues such as intersectionality, environmental justice, barriers to social mobility, merit, or unfair distribution of resources come to the fore, topics on which TREES focuses to gradually influence public policies that address these challenges. Making inequalities the central axis is TREES' commitment to give rise to new ways of thinking about the economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reimaginar la econom\u00eda, entonces, pasa por entender el sistema econ\u00f3mico dominante, cu\u00e1les son sus grietas, por qu\u00e9 se cuestiona y c\u00f3mo podr\u00eda transformarse. Como plantea Juan Camilo C\u00e1rdenas, l\u00edder del Componente de Divulgaci\u00f3n, el sistema econ\u00f3mico actual \u201cparece ser muy robusto y sobrevivir bien a los cambios mundiales, sin embargo, no corrige muchas de las injusticias\u201d. Es por esto que inevitablemente surge la pregunta de si es posible crear un modelo alternativo. Sin duda, es una cuesti\u00f3n compleja que en este momento no tiene una respuesta \u00fanica. Pero s\u00ed se puede decir que es necesario empezar a repensar la econom\u00eda, aunque esto no implique una transformaci\u00f3n total de la econom\u00eda de mercado.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, it is important to understand that reimagining the economy is not only done externally. The focus must also be on the discipline itself. There is a widespread idea that economists are disconnected from social reality. Therefore, from TREES, the inward look is fundamental. As Jimena Hurtado, creator of the Teaching component, states: \"With this initiative, we hope that economists have the ability to ask questions and find creative solutions to specific problems that can transform this society.\"  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contribuir a la formaci\u00f3n de nuevos economistas conectados con la realidad social, con la capacidad de generar di\u00e1logos interdisciplinarios, y desde una mirada del sur global, es una de las apuestas de TREES para repensar la econom\u00eda. El objetivo es construir las bases conceptuales y pr\u00e1cticas para pensar un modelo econ\u00f3mico en el que se distribuyan de manera justa los recursos y se permita el ascenso social. Un modelo en el que, adem\u00e1s, la clase social, la raza, el g\u00e9nero y el origen no impliquen una barrera para la movilidad social. Y donde, por medio de acciones colectivas, se construyan poco a poco pa\u00edses con menos desigualdades y, de esa forma, sociedades con m\u00e1s oportunidades.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
